The only previous song about the Big Apple that the Yeah Yeah Yeah's had recorded was a B-side called "Yeah, New York." This languidly yearning song utilizes the clanging sound of a train shunting along the subway tracks as an appropriate source of percussion.

"Mosquito", like the cover, is an ugly step down from Yeah Yeah Yeahs' previous works. "Sacrilege" is the only fantastic song here, but everything else pales in comparison in terms of ambition and writing. It also lacks the energy of everything else they've done, making it their most sluggish listen.

The Yeah Yeah Yeah's open their fourth studio album, “Mosquito”, with a bang. On “Sacrilege”, they explore the absolution of religion in a fun and theatrical way. Karen O sounds both powerful and vulnerable when she sings “and I plead and I pray” as Nick Zinner channels Johnny Marr with his perfectly light and simple guitar riffs 4/5().
